Plot: There’s a new STD in town, and everyone wants it! Simply known as “The Beauty”, this disease washes away all your imperfects. You become supermodel hot, and the only known side effect is a slight fever, but you know what they say about things sounding too good to be true… (Includes issues #1-6.)
Review: There is so much going on with this series and all of it is awesome. First, I love that Haun and Hurley kick it off with a bang, and lets us quickly see what The Beauty is all about. This disease is deadly, and with half the population infected it isn’t pretty when the proverbial shit hits the fan. What makes it even worse is that modern civilization is ugly to the bone. Haun and Hurley use this truth as a catalyst to touch on a range of topics. From our obsession with celebrities and appearances, to the pharmaceutical industry and politics, we are forced to look at our morality. The Beauty is a dark and gory exploration of the depths people will sink to in order to get what is desired. I relished every page.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Who Should Snag It: Anyone looking for something edgy, slightly gory, and thought-provoking will love this.
